Reinvention isn’t a detour
One of the biggest misconceptions about career pivots is the belief they require you to start over. Changing the trajectory of your career, and even your life, isn't a total reset. You're not starting over, you're starting from experience, and that distinction matters.
When I made the decision to transition from the familiar rhythm of a traditional 9-to-5 and build a communication consulting business that helps small business owners show up online with clarity and confidence, it wasn't a reckless leap into uncertainty. Anyone who knows me knows I thrive in the methodical and the logical. This shift was a deliberate step forward, grounded in years of formal education, professional experience, and a diverse network of colleagues and mentors who have shaped the way I lead and communicate.
Change, as it often does, has come with its challenges. But my lived experiences in navigating recessions, global crises, and the constant evolution of technology have taught me how to rethink and reshape my career and personal brand with intention. Long before I entered the workforce, my upbringing as a military child helped me understand what it really meant to start over time and time again - new schools, unfamiliar cities, different culture, and shifting expectations. My formative years strengthened my ability to make solid connections and develop meaningful relationships.
In the short time that I've stepped out on my own, I've already forged new relationships and found community among local business leaders and entrepreneurs. The members of ProNet of Johnson County have been so gracious and welcoming. We learn from one another weekly, and we manage to have a little fun along the way. ☺️
Instead of shying away from change, I'm choosing faith over my fear. I'm honing in on the best ways to use my gifts to help others show up with authenticity and intention, and I'm genuinely excited for what's next.
If you're standing on the precipice of your own pivot, remember you're not starting from scratch. What you have gained over the years is more powerful than the unknown ahead. Use your experience as a launch pad and go! 🚀
