Start before you feel ready
One of the most meaningful lessons I've learned in the midst of the changes going on in my life right now is you don't have to feel ready to begin a new thing. As someone with a strong A-type personality, I naturally want all the boxes to be checked and logistics in order before I take a leap - and especially if it involves something vastly different than what I've done before. But the reality is most of the important steps we take in life happen long before we feel fully prepared.
I came across a quote by actress Carrie Fisher the other day that gave me pause, "Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What's important is the action." It resonated with me because it acknowledges something that's hard to admit out loud: Fear does not disqualify us from moving forward. In fact, it often signals that we are at the threshold of something special.
Starting something new, whether it's a business, career shift, certification, or a dream that's been quietly tugging at you, rarely begins with a surge of certainty. Sometimes you begin while questioning your timing or your age. Sometimes you begin while wondering whether you're capable of learning something unfamiliar. Sometimes you begin while carrying the weight of doubt that whispers you should wait till the timing is better. Spoiler alert: The perfect moment rarely arrives. The time is now.
Begin anyway.
Growth does not wait for comfort or perfection. The lessons you've learned from past experiences will become the launchpad for what is before you now. And it is my personal belief that your faith will carry you through. Taking action in the midst of uncertainty is scary. I can personally attest to this. But I'm doing it. I'm doing it with the doubts. I'm doing it when my decision-making feels shaky. And yes, I'm doing it scared.
If you're on the brink of something new and feeling a little unsteady, you're not alone. Let's trade stories and encourage one another because your network is your lift! And sometimes all you need is a reminder that you're capable of more than you think.
