The gift of reading
✍️ At an early age, my parents gave me one of the greatest gifts: a love of reading. Over the years, that love evolved into an affinity and talent for writing. Today, I consider myself a genuine and effective storyteller; not just because I know how to string words together but because I’ve learned how to make them resonate.
For me, writing well isn’t just about clever phrasing or perfect grammar. It’s about clarity, empathy, and connection. And if there’s one habit that’s shaped my writing more than anything else, it’s reading.
📚 I believe to be a good writer, you have to be a vigilant consumer of words and possess a strong curiosity for learning how to use words to evoke emotion, create engagement, and drive action. When I read, for information or pleasure, I read with intention. I study how other creatives structure their thoughts, synthesize complex ideas, and use rhythm to guide the reader’s experience. This kind of reading has helped me hone my writing voice and shape brand narratives for companies and organizations I’ve worked with.
Here are 5 simple tips that help me level up my writing:
✔️Read like a writer. Pay attention to what works and why. Every sentence is a lesson.
✔️Write every daily, even when it’s hard. Fluency comes from frequency.
✔️ Edit ruthlessly. Your first draft is raw clay; sculpt it. Get rid of what doesn’t fit.
✔️ Get feedback and listen actively. Growth lives in critique, not comfort.
✔️ Know your audience. Writing is a gift you give the reader. Make it one they want to open. When you write for your audience, everyone wins.
Writing is a craft, and reading is the sharpening stone. 📖 What book is currently shaping your thinking?
