This is my rain
In our careers, we all experience seasons that feel a little heavier than others. Rejections. Proposals that didn’t land. Opportunities that slipped through our fingers. Speeches that didn’t resonate the way we hoped.
These things can sting. We are human and emotional beings. We care about our work and pour ourselves into our craft. So, when the answer is 𝘯𝘰, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, it’s natural to feel the weight of it.
The other day I was talking with my husband about my current season and all the ups and downs that have come with it. He listened, paused, and said, “This is your rain.”
And he’s right. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙮 𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣.
It’s a period of growth, stretching, and transformation. It’s challenging, but it’s not a punishment. It’s part of the process.
Rain grows things.
It reveals what needs tending.
Rain softens the ground for what’s emerging.
And this soil, this messy, muddy, uncomfortable soil, is what redefines and refines the next good thing. Every “no” has gifted me resilience. Every setback has prepared me for a stronger comeback. My only job is to keep showing up for my family and myself.
And the beautiful thing about rain … it doesn’t last forever.
Every rainstorm eventually breaks.
The downpour gives way to light.
The rain brings the sun.
So, if you’re in your rainy season right now, embrace it. Say, ”𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯.” Then, keep learning and keep moving. Because the sunshine is coming. And when it does, chase it with everything you’ve got.
I enjoy connecting with other professionals and encouraging one another to keep showing up. If you’d like to have a coffee chat - in person on virtually - I’d be happy to connect.
