🔥Busy isn’t the same as effective
At a previous gig, we held weekly corporate status meetings where one team member would share what they were working on. Without fail, they'd start with the same phrase: "I'm busy.” And then go into a long list of tasks on the docket for the week. I didn't doubt they were busy. The company was a lean one where everyone wore multiple hats. Somewhere along the way, "busy" became a badge of honor. Full calendars, long hours, constantly being seen doing things became proof of worthiness.
But busyness doesn’t always equal progress, and it often distracts from creating meaningful change within an organization. Being effective requires clarity, intention, and the discipline to focus on what truly matters.
Effectiveness looks like:
✔️ aligning tasks with desired outcomes,
👊🏽 prioritizing impact over activity,
✍🏽 creating space for strategy, creativity, and thoughtful decision-making.
Busyness simply asks, “What's next on the list?”
According to my Working Genius profile, tenacity is one of my strongest gifts. I get energy by getting things done. And to be honest, I love a good checklist. I'm wired to drive things across the finish line, AND to ensure follow-through that my part is going to drive overall results and success. Tenacity isn't just about doing more. It's about doing what matters and seeing it through. At the end of the day, results outweigh busyness, and I'm grateful to have built a career helping inspire change and produce measurable outcomes across various industries throughout the Southwest.
Here's to working with purpose; not just working nonstop.
