Don’t let rejection write the story
The story we tell ourselves can be the most powerful story of all … and the most damaging, if we let it. Now, I’m not talking about the stories we share on social media because those are the most carefully curated highlights with filtered images. But the stories that play out in our minds when no one else is listening, those are the ones that can really go viral within us during those quiet moments.
If you’re looking for a job now, you know what I mean. You’re tailoring resumes, submitting applications into the void, and receiving rejection after automated rejection.
You can also relate if you’re building a business, too. You’re sending emails, making connections, pitching ideas, and missing opportunities. One day feels promising, and the next feels discouraging. Your emotions are on a rollercoaster of perceived successes and stumbling blocks.
It feels like we’re living in a pretty defeating season right now. And when these moments stack up, it’s so easy to believe rejection is writing the story.
You might be telling yourself:
Maybe I’m not qualified enough
Maybe I’m too old
Maybe I started too late
Maybe I’m not cut out for this
Maybe it’s time to give up
This is the real battle, am I right? Not the rejection but the meaning we surmise from it. But one setback or one “no” doesn’t define you, and it doesn’t determine your future. Sometimes the discouragement speaks louder than hope, and there are days when quitting seems easier than trying one more time.
But keep going
Keep moving
Keep persisting
Keep showing up
Keep your nose to the grindston
This is not where your story ends. And it will all work out in the end. If it hasn’t just yet, you’re not at the end. So, from one catastrophizer to another, be careful about the story you’re telling yourself. Because the story that matters the most isn’t the rejection; it’s what you decide to do next.
Let’s go get it. 💪🏽
